Matthew T. Abbott
Deputy Assistant Secretary for Federal Finance

Matthew T. Abbott was named Deputy Assistant Secretary for Federal Finance on November 27, 2006. In this position, Mr. Abbott oversees the Office of Federal Finance which develops, analyzes, and coordinates the Department’s policies on Treasury financing, public debt management, and Federal regulation of financial markets, including regulatory issues in the Government securities markets and the futures markets.
 
From 2005 to 2006, Mr. Abbott served as the Senior Adviser to the Under Secretary for Domestic Finance, where he provided counsel on key policy matters including: domestic finance; fiscal policy and operations; governmental assets and liabilities; and related economic and financial matters.  Prior to that position, he served as Senior Adviser to the Assistant Secretary for Financial Markets.  Mr. Abbott worked in the fixed income division of Credit Suisse First Boston from 1999 to 2004.  
 
A native of Boston, Massachusetts, Mr. Abbott graduated from the College of the Holy Cross in 1993 with a B.A. in Economics and Accounting.  He earned his M.B.A. from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management in 1999.  Before entering graduate school, he served in the 10th Special Forces Group (Airborne) and was honorably discharged as a Captain in the United States Army.
