Dennis S. Schindel
Deputy Inspector General

Dennis S. Schindel was appointed Deputy Inspector General on March 11, 2001.  In this capacity, he assists the Inspector General in providing leadership and direction to the Office of the Treasury Inspector General.  Since April 29, 2007, he has also been serving as the Acting Inspector General.

Mr. Schindel has served at the Department of the Treasury since 1972.  Prior to his appointment as the Deputy Inspector General, Mr. Schindel served as the Assistant Inspector General for Audit, where he was responsible for managing all aspects of the audit program.

Prior to joining the Office of Inspector General, Mr. Schindel worked at the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Inspection Service for eighteen years, where he was involved in audits of major IRS programs.  Mr. Schindel also worked as a branch chief with the Inspection Service, where he was responsible for long range and annual audit planning, coordination of IRS wide audits, internal quality assurance, and IT support.

Mr. Schindel received a bachelor's degree in Accounting from Villanova University and has completed graduate work in public administration at New York University.  He is a Certified Internal Auditor and a member of the Association of Government Accountants.

Mr. Schindel resides in Maryland with his wife and two daughters.
