Brian Nagel
Deputy Director

As Deputy Director, Mr. Nagel executes oversight of the agency's daily operations, including its more than 6,600 personnel and $1.4 billion budget. He also develops and implements policy as it relates to the agency's investigative and protective mission.

Brian Nagel's career with the Secret Service began in 1983 as a special agent assigned to the Washington Field Office. Subsequent career assignments include duty in the Miami Field Office and the Presidential Protective Division during the tenure of Presidents George H. W. Bush and William J. Clinton. Within the managerial ranks, Mr. Nagel has held several key supervisory positions in the Presidential Protective Division, the Counterfeit Division, the Office of Protective Operations and the Office of the Director.

Beginning in June 2000, Mr. Nagel was assigned to the Los Angeles Field Office, where he served first as the Assistant Special Agent in Charge and was later appointed to the position of Special Agent in Charge.

In 2003, Mr. Nagel returned to Washington, D.C., as the Assistant Director for the Office of Inspection, a position in which he managed the internal affairs responsibilities for the agency. He was subsequently selected for the position of Assistant Director for the Office of Investigations, where he was responsible for field operations in 135 offices throughout the world.

While serving in the Office of Investigations, Mr. Nagel implemented an aggressive cyber-training program for special agents and the expansion of the Secret Service's Electronic Crimes Task Forces. These groups focus on cyber and financial crimes in specific communities by creating partnerships with the private sector, academia and with other law enforcement agencies.

Mr. Nagel is the recipient of numerous awards from law enforcement, the private sector and government entities, including the 2005 Presidential Rank Award for Meritorious Executive and the Intelligence Community Seal Medallion presented by the Central Intelligence Agency. He also has served as an advisor to other government agencies on improving program management and effectiveness.

A native of Detroit, Michigan, Brian Nagel is a graduate of the University of Missouri - Columbia, where he earned a bachelor's degree in business administration and accounting.
