USSS DIRECTOR
Brian L. StaffordBrian L. Stafford was appointed as the 20th Director of the United States Secret Service on March 4, 1999. In his previous assignments, he served as Assistant Director, Office of Protective Operations, and as the Special Agent in Charge of the agency's Presidential Protective Division.
Prior to joining the Secret Service, Mr. Stafford served in the United States Army from 1969 to 1971 and completed a tour of duty in Vietnam.
Mr. Stafford began his tenure with the Secret Service in 1971 as a special agent assigned to the Cleveland Field Office. Subsequent career assignments include duty in the West Palm Beach Resident Office and the Presidential Protective Division. Within the organization's managerial ranks, Mr. Stafford has held several key positions in the Special Investigations and Security Division, the Technical Security Division, the Miami Field Office, and the Office of Protective Operations.
He earned a bachelor of arts degree in economics/business and is married with two children.
